Triveni Ravi has won Black Opal’s 2013 True Beauty Model Search contest. The 19 year-old nursing student from Los Angeles was chosen from over 400 applicants and 3 finalists.

Ravi is originally from Perth, Australia, and has an Indian skin tone. She is the first non-African American woman to represent the brand.

“As a young woman of color, I hope to serve as a beauty inspiration to all Women and show that Black Opal products work on various skin tones and can be used by women from all cultures,” Ravi said.

As the grand prize winner, Ravi will be featured in Black Opal’s marketing material worldwide. She received an all-expense paid trip to New York City and a professional photo shoot, complete with celebrity hair, fashion and makeup styling. Additionally, Ravi will receive a year’s supply of Black Opal skincare and cosmetics.

Selected by a panel of judges from the beauty and entertainment fields; all applicants were evaluated based on essays, community service involvement, educational aspiration and a photo of themselves representing Black Opal’s True Beauty.

The panel of judges included such luminaries from the beauty and entertainment worlds:

singer/songwriter and VH1’s Love & Hip Hop cast member and R&B singer Olivia; Celebrity Make-up artist Frank Guyton; Noted and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess; Celebrity Hairstylist Eric Bland; Style Network’s Chicagolicious cast member Valencia; and Celebrity Fashion Stylist Andre Austin.

In addition to the Grand Prize, scholarship awards totaling $15,500 was given to nine young women chosen by online fan voting. Each recipient will receive complimentary Black Opal skincare and cosmetics products and may also be given the opportunity to be featured in Black Opal worldwide marketing materials.
